From the perspective of a villager

by: The_Cerebrum

It's really quite an odd story. You see I can't remember anything before a certain point. I don't recall a childhood. It's almost like I just appeared there.

I had just enough time to tell that I was standing on a grassy plain, and in the distance I briefly saw a large forest, and towering behind it, a mountain.

Then came a thundering voice from the sky, which politely asked me to walk to a location which he magically pointed out to me with a red arrow. I thought for a minute, and realized that this must be a god, and I knew that if one was so bold so to disobey a god one would be surely die. So I walked willing to the place god pointed out.

Upon arriving at my destination, I took a look around. Before I could get my bearings, a huge beast with a man on top of it thundered past leaving a trail of dust. After this incident I took a look all around me, and I discovered behind, a towering  building. I also noticed to other villagers, one male, like myself, and the other female.

Then the voice from the sky spoke again, this time asking me to build a house. He supplied plans, which he magically set in the air, and with the materials he provided, the construction was relatively easy.

Once again I had a chance to look around, this time noticing an ocean in the distance, and one of the other villagers had completed building a "mill", and the other was herding sheep near the Town Center. I also realized that now there were several new villagers, I believe I counted 4 new ones in total.

I had not been idle long before the voice from the sky spoke again. This time he asked me to walk towards the water, which seemed very appealing to me, since I had not seen much of the world yet. Once there, it seemed to loose it's magical appeal, just wave upon wave of water.

Speaking in his usual thundering voice, god asked that I construct a dock. As before, he supplied materials, and he magically created the plans. I built it, though it took longer than a house.

Now, finished, I sat on the beach and enjoyed the rolling waves on the soft sand. I noticed a couple of fish jumping in the water. Quite pleasant to watch. Then, from the dock, came a small boat. I watched it head for the fish, put out it's nets, and then haul them in when they were full.

As he had spoken before, the god spoke, this time asked me to return to the "Town Center", using the red arrows to guide me. Once there, he asked me to build a farm, and harvest it's crops. Once harvested I deposited the food at the Town Center. I did this countless times, until the farm's land was useless for growing crops. I sat down, and looked around me, I noticed many more villagers working at various tasks, mining, farming, foraging, fishing, chopping down trees...

This memory will probably be with me until the day I die. Thundering down the plain came a swarm of horses, with riders firing arrows at everything that moved. The town center started ringing, and everyone starting running towards it. I was almost inside, when I was shot in the leg. My fellow villagers managed to haul me in before I passed out.

The next time I can remember, my civilization was in the "Castle Age." I woke up in a monastery, were monks had healed my life threatening wounds. Once able to return to work, I stepped outside, and there before me, was a towering building of stone! I was awestruck by it's magnificent fortifications, and the beautiful flags flapping in the wind. I learned that this magnificent building was called a Castle.

Now in the Castle age, the empire required much more stone and gold. So god ordered me to the dock, where I boarded a transport ship with several fellow villagers. We set sail for a small, barren island, rich in stone and gold. We set up a mining camp, and a  tower for our defense. Then back to the dull task of mining.

After what seemed like years on that island, the stone and the gold were finally all mined. We had a small break before God sent a transport to pick us up, and bring us back to civilization.

There, once more to my surprise, I found that the empire had advanced again, this time to the imperial age. There were walls surrounding most of the town, a university, and a siege workshop. But most wondrous of all were a huge number of villagers, gathered building a huge "Wonder!"

I was not really surprised when God asked me to work on this building with all my fellow villagers, as it seemed so important. After almost 5 months hard work we completed this large building. I think it's impossible for me to express the beauty, and the sheer size of this building. Wondrous!

All the villagers were ordered into the towers, Castles, and the Town Center. There we were told by God to pick up bows, and fire at the enemy which would surely come.

And sure enough, they came. But their "siege weapons" and men were no match for our many towers and mighty fortifications. We shot most of them down, and the rest fled.

Before we had time to rest, another army, more powerful than the first came! This time around, we took casualties, alot of them in fact. Almost half our towers went down, and there were several breaches in our once mighty walls. But all was not lost, for they had heavy casualties as well, almost double what we had.

And this is the funniest part of all. You see, I can't remember anything after that except for "You are Victorious!"
